In plain language

This summary is here to help you read the license. It isn't a substitute for it; the license text is what applies.

You may

  • Install and use copies from the App Store or another authorized source, for personal use or your own work
  • Record, export, and keep your own data, and do anything you like with it

You may not, without permission

  • Copy, modify, or make derivative works of the software
  • Redistribute, sell, rent, or sublicense it
  • Commercially exploit the software itself
  • Remove copyright or license notices

Also note

  • The software comes without warranties, to the extent the law allows
  • Rights the law gives you, as a consumer or for interoperability, are unaffected

Source code

Calendar Time Logger is closed-source. If any of its source code is visible to you, for example in a public repository, being able to read it doesn't give you the right to use, modify, redistribute, or commercially exploit it. The license allows reading it and building it for your own personal, non-commercial evaluation; anything more needs written permission.

This website's own HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are also proprietary. Your browser necessarily downloads them to show the site; that doesn't grant a right to reuse them.

Earlier versions

Calendar Time Logger 1.4.0, and other material published under the MIT License before October 12, 2026, remain available under the MIT License to anyone who received them under it. This license applies to versions released from October 12, 2026.

The App Store version

If you get Calendar Time Logger from the App Store, your use of that copy is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, or any other agreement that applies to it through the App Store. This license doesn't override Apple's terms, and doesn't take away rights they give you. See also the Terms of Use.

Third-party software

Third-party components are governed by their own licenses, not this one. The app contains no third-party code. It has no package dependencies other than its own core library, and its Excel export is written in-house.

It is built with Apple's frameworks, provided as part of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS: SwiftUI, SwiftData, EventKit, CloudKit, WidgetKit, ActivityKit, App Intents, and WatchConnectivity. Its icons are SF Symbols, provided by Apple and used under Apple's terms for SF Symbols.

This website

This website serves no third-party code, fonts, or images, and loads nothing from other sites. It's built with open-source development tools that keep their own licenses and aren't part of the published site:

  • Vite (MIT License) and its build components
  • sharp (Apache License 2.0), with libvips (LGPL-3.0-or-later), used to prepare images
  • Lightning CSS (Mozilla Public License 2.0), used to process styles

Names and trademarks

The "Calendar Time Logger" name and the CTL logo identify the app. The license doesn't permit using them for other software, or in a way that suggests endorsement.

Apple, iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, iCloud, and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. They're used here only to describe compatibility. Calendar Time Logger isn't made by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Apple.

1. DEFINITIONS

"Owner" means Abir Barman.

"Software" means Calendar Time Logger, including its applications for macOS,
iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS and their widgets and extensions; its source code and
object code; its documentation; its original designs, artwork, and screenshots;
the "Calendar Time Logger" name and the CTL logo; and the source code of the
website at https://ctl.abirbarman.com. The Software does not include
Third-Party Components.

"Third-Party Components" means any software, fonts, images, or other material
in or used with the Software that is owned by someone other than the Owner,
including the operating systems, frameworks, and SF Symbols provided by Apple.

"Authorized Channel" means the Apple App Store or another distribution channel
through which the Owner, or someone with the Owner's written permission, makes
the Software available.

"You" means the person or organization using the Software.

2. OWNERSHIP AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The Software is owned by the Owner and is protected by copyright and other
intellectual-property laws. It is licensed, not sold. Except for the limited
rights expressly granted in this License, in a separate written agreement with
the Owner, or by applicable law, the Owner reserves all rights in the Software.
Nothing in this License transfers ownership of the Software or grants any right
in Third-Party Components, which belong to their respective owners.

3. LIMITED LICENSE GRANT

Subject to this License, the Owner grants you a limited, non-exclusive,
non-transferable, revocable license to install and use an executable copy of
the Software that you obtained from an Authorized Channel, on devices that you
own or control, for your personal use or for your internal business purposes.

If you obtained the Software from the Apple App Store, your use is also subject
to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement or any other
agreement that applies to that copy through the App Store. Where those terms
govern your use of that copy, they apply in addition to this License, and
nothing in this License limits rights they give you.

4. PERMITTED USE

Under the license in Section 3 you may:

  (a) install and run the Software on devices you own or control;
  (b) use it to record, review, and export your own work data; and
  (c) make copies of your own data, including Excel exports, for any purpose.

The data you create with the Software belongs to you. This License does not
restrict what you do with it.

5. RESTRICTIONS

Except as expressly permitted by this License, a separate written agreement
with the Owner, or applicable law, you may not:

  (a) copy the Software, other than as needed to install and use it under
      Section 3 and to make backups of your devices;
  (b) modify, translate, adapt, or create derivative works of the Software;
  (c) distribute, publish, sell, rent, lease, lend, sublicense, or otherwise
      make the Software, or any derivative work of it, available to others;
  (d) remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or license notice;
  (e) use the "Calendar Time Logger" name, the CTL logo, or confusingly
similar names or marks for other software, or in a way that suggests
the Owner endorses something they do not; or
  (f) use the Software in violation of applicable law.

6. SOURCE-CODE ACCESS

The Owner may make some or all of the Software's source code visible, for
example in a public repository. Being able to see, download, or clone the
source code does not grant any right to use, copy, modify, distribute, or
commercially exploit it, except as follows:

  (a) You may read the source code.
  (b) You may build and run the Software from that source code solely for
your own personal, non-commercial evaluation, or for development work
the Owner has authorized in writing. You may not distribute the
      resulting builds.
  (c) Rights that a hosting service's own terms give its users (for example,
GitHub's terms allow users to view and fork public repositories on
GitHub) are not limited by this License, but they do not include any
right beyond what those terms grant.

7. REDISTRIBUTION

You may not redistribute the Software, in source or executable form, modified
or unmodified, without the Owner's prior written permission. Authorized
Channels distribute the Software under their agreements with the Owner.

8. COMMERCIAL EXPLOITATION

Using the Software for your own work, including at a business, is permitted
under Section 3. You may not sell, license, host, bundle, or otherwise
commercially exploit the Software itself, or any derivative work of it, without
the Owner's prior written permission.

9. REVERSE ENGINEERING

You may not decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer the executable
Software, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it despite
this restriction, for example to achieve interoperability. Where the law
requires you to request interoperability information first, contact the Owner.

10. THIRD-PARTY COMPONENTS

Third-Party Components are licensed to you under their own terms, not this
License, and nothing in this License limits rights those terms give you. The
Software is built with frameworks and SF Symbols provided by Apple, which are
governed by Apple's terms. A list of Third-Party Components and their notices
is maintained in Documentation/Legal/Third-Party-Notices.md.

11. UPDATES, EARLIER VERSIONS, AND CHANGES TO THIS LICENSE

The Owner may release updates to the Software. Unless an update comes with
different terms, this License applies to it.

The Owner may change this License for future versions of the Software. A
version you have already received remains under the license that came with it.

Earlier versions: Calendar Time Logger version 1.4.0, and any other source code
or release the Owner published under the MIT License before October 12, 2026,
remains available under the MIT License to anyone who received it under that
license. This License applies to versions of the Software released on or after
October 12, 2026.

12. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Software is provided "as is" and
"as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including
the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose,
and non-infringement. The Owner does not warrant that the Software will be
error-free or uninterrupted, or that recorded times, synchronization, Calendar
events, or exports will be complete or accurate.

13. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Owner will not be liable for any
indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any
loss of data, profits, revenue, or time, arising out of or related to this
License or the Software, however caused and on any theory of liability, even if
the Owner has been advised of the possibility of such damages. To the extent
permitted by applicable law, the Owner's total liability arising out of or
related to this License or the Software will not exceed the amount you paid for
the Software, if any.

Nothing in this License excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or
limited under applicable law, such as liability for death or personal injury
caused by negligence, or for fraud.

14. YOUR STATUTORY RIGHTS

Some jurisdictions give consumers rights that cannot be waived or limited by
contract. Nothing in this License affects those rights. If a provision of this
License is unenforceable where you live, it applies to the maximum extent
permitted, and the rest of this License remains in effect.

15. TERMINATION

This License remains in effect until terminated. If you materially breach it,
the Owner may terminate it by notice to you. If the breach can be remedied, the
termination takes effect only if you have not remedied it within 30 days after
that notice. You may terminate this License at any time by deleting all copies
of the Software in your possession.

When this License terminates, you must stop using the Software and delete your
copies of it. Your own data remains yours. Sections 2, 5 through 10, and 12
through 17 survive termination.

16. GOVERNING LAW

The governing law and venue for this License have not yet been specified. Until
they are, nothing in this License limits the mandatory laws that apply to you.
